![]() ![]() Akazukin Cha ChaAkazukin Cha Cha(ACC) is also known to English fans as Red Hood Cha Cha. Although the similarities in the name, it doesn't make any reference to the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. It is a comedic series by Mangaka (comic artist) Ayahana Min. Like many other Anime (Japanese-animated cartoons), Akazukin Cha Cha originated from a Manga (Japanese comic). It has a very simple story line. Cha Cha(our heroine) is training to be a magician under the World's Greatest Magician, Seravi. All seems well except Cha Cha can never seem to get her spells to work out right, and seems prone to getting herself into trouble. A host of other interesting characters help jive up the story. Cha Cha's best friend, Riya, is a wolf-boy with immense strength. There's an endless variety of people in this story from vampires to mermaids to dolphins and monkeys. There are also several love-triangles in the story. An example is Riya's and Shiine's rivalry for Cha Cha's love. The Anime The start of the first season of the Anime (Japanese Animated Cartoon), Akazukin Cha Cha, in 1994 by Television Tokyo and NAS marked the appearance of new characters that never appeared in the Manga. Following the popular trend of "majoko" Anime genre, where little girl heroines transform into grown-up women with magical powers. Cha Cha could transform into Magical Princess Holy-up, a goddess destined to banish all evil from the land. The Magical Princess never existed in the Manga. For the first 56 episodes of the Anime, the Magical Princess had to overcome the obstacles set out by the minions of Daimaou, an evil nemesis, who also never existed in the Manga. The introduction of these two new main characters and host of many others gave the Anime, Akazukin Cha Cha, a different story line. Original Manga stories were episodic adventures that Cha Cha and the people around her go through. However, the Anime brought forward the idea of Cha Cha striving to improve herself in order to save her family from Daimaou. The Anime has since ended in 1995, there were 74 television episodes, which came over 3 seasons, and 3 OVAs(Original Video Animation). To this day, it has been dubbed and subtitled into other languages. Besides these cartoons, there's also the 'Akazukin Cha Cha Anime Kids Comics', a collection of full-colour large size books for kids. The stories and pictures are taken from the Anime. The Manga The Akazukin Cha Cha Manga (Japanese Comic) was first published in Ribon, a monthly girl comics magazine, by Shueisha. It was aimed at young girls. However, because it was comedic, it attracted males and females of other ages as well. After its first appearance in 1991, the Manga has since then has been compiled into 13 tankoubon (pocket comic books) by Shueisha under the Ribon Mascot Comics label. It has since been translated from, it's original Japanese version, into a number of languages including English, Korean and Chinese. Original Manga stories were used throughout the Anime series but they were altered to included characters like the Magical Princess Holy-up and Daimaou. The television episodes covered tankoubon 1 to 5 of the Manga, the remaining OVAs covered parts of tankoubon 6. The anime series ended in 1995, but the manga went on all the way to the year 2000. Giving it a 9-year running time, one of the longest manga ever to run in Ribon. The Manga has its own host of characters, but what sets apart the Manga from the Anime is the resolution to various problems. The problem is normally the appearance a villain who tries to harm Cha Cha and the people around her. In the Anime, the Magical Princess is there to tackle the problem. Because she doesn't exist in the Manga. Hence, the methods use to counter the same problem in the Manga are very different.
