Ibu is a young adopted boy who lately dream everynight of a black panther. One day, while he was discussing French authors with Nagisa, his supposed girlfriend, in the library, he thought he saw the same panther. He ran to follow it in spite of the storm, and found himself in a cemetery, surrounded by crows. Panic-stricked, he tried to flee but bumped into an unknown and rather enigmatic and impressive man, which for the greatest confusion of Ibu, greeted it by calling him prince.
Then, without much care for this poor Ibu, this character informed him that he was the prince of the vampires and that him, Kai, was his companion ("his fiancé ! ). All of this was too much for Ibu who fainted. Kai then brought him to his place (Ibu's ^^;).
Once our hero is awake again, a small history follows. Ibu is a "dampire", the illegitimate son of the prince of the vampires (of Transylvania) and a mortal. Because of a rebellion of their people, Ibu's parents are driven away and killed, little Ibu being thus entrusted to the world of humans in Japan. But his father still had had the time to bethrote him to the young Kai, his best knight (so young ??). Now, to become a vampire, Ibu must drink his first blood and transform himself into a panther which is in fact the animal form of the vampires... and this before his 16th birthday, which is urgent !! The vampires transform themselves by saying the word "dracula", and for Ibu it has unexpected results ! The panther whose Ibu dreamed about was obviously Kai which was trying to contact with him this way. Once Ibu would have achieved its "rites" of passage (or almost - _ -;), he will have to look for the 13 knights whose fidelity his father had obtained, in order to, I suppose, recover his kingdom. The first knight (and fiancé !!!) is of course Kai. After some adventures and a relative acceptance of all these revelations by Ibu, Kai and Ibu will go all over the world in search for the knights and, also, the sword Excalibur which must return to him.
Without being the masterwork of the century, Bad Moon is really a manga very sympathetic and pleasant. The drawings are usually good (except Kai which is made too large in Chinese costume IMO ;P), no big fault even if one has to acknowledge that Kai for example does not have the most original design (but don't we love those tall black-haired guys ???? I do...). The story is holding and promising: to think that it took four volumes to find 5 of the knights, but there are 13 of them and I suppose the battle after... and the last volume was published in 97!!!! It seemed to have a good publishing rate at the beginning but now...
I particularly like the humor, never too far away, and the evolution of Kai-Ibu relationship. BTW if you seek graphic scenes go and look for another manga. I could say that they are worse than Dee and Ryo from Fake before the 7th manga !!!! Everytime something could begin to happen, would it be only a kiss, something prevent it. The feelings make progres but the rest...
To conclude, this is a series to be added to your collection in my opinion if you appreciate pretty little yaoi stories well drawned. To my knowledge alas this manga was never adapted in anime. It my is favorite of yukari Ito...
So why doesn't she continue instead of publishing very average boring stories?
