    Excel Saga

    Excel Saga

Weird, mad, insane, wacky... where's my thesaurus...? The first time you see an episode of Excel Saga, you have the time of your life. Laugh?! You'll have to press the pause button to get the feeling back in your stomach!

The second time you watch it, you can take the same feeling and square it. Now you think about that on a 26 episode basis, and you're talking... frightening.

Excel is the loyal disciple of Master Il Palazzo - an evil-overlord with a dunking complex. Her partner, Hyatt, who has the ability to emit more blood than the Fox Kids censors (or is that omit...?) joins her in their farcical quest to bring the world around to the pure ideals of the secret orgaisation Across.

Okay, I'll be frank - there's no way I could write a review that even comes close to describing how damn good this series is. How well it spoofs absolutely *everything* under the sun, be it The Matrix, Dragonball, Star Wars. How many times you find yourself just about recovering from a really big laugh and having an even bigger one smack you right in the guts. Or even how many words per millisecond Mitsuishi-san can produce.

The fact that the main character is killed 5 times in episode 1. The fact that the original manga author is killed in episode 1. The inumerable in-jokes with most of the production staff being represented in the anime. And that's all without mentioning Nabeshin, the afro-sporting mysterious extra; Pedro, the cursed foreign labour worker; and Menchi, the ultimate sushi!

Get it. Watch it. Absorb it. And do it *now*!. You're life *will* be better.

    - ES ran from 7th October 1999 to 30th March 2000 (Thursdays) at 25:15 on TV Tokyo. That was 25 episodes of pure adrenachrome. Since then, an extra episode has been produced. You can read a little about that in the episodes section of this site.

    - ES started life as the first published manga from Koshi Rikdo - a prolific manga author, who has his own web site (see links section) where you can find out a little (subject to language barriers) about his world. There's CG art, stuff about ES, his doujinshi circle and odd pieces about fixing his PC, etc. Class. ^_^

    - There are now 8 volumes of the manga, with the eighth just released. This will continue. Look for more info on the manga on this site just as soon as I get a whole bunch of time that I don't have.

    - There are 13 volumes of the anime in Japan (on both VHS and DVD). I don't know what the region coding is, but I can say they do NOT have English subs. The big news is, that episode 26 IS included in volume 13 (final volume).

Special Thanks to: Jon Lawson from Excel-Saga.Com for the information.
