![]() YaibaKurogane Yaiba has been raised by his father in a jungle, training to become a samurai. When they are accidentally shipped to Japan, he meets Mine Sayaka- the daughter of Raizou, his father's old rival. Yaiba moves in with the Mine family and continues his training in Japan, even visiting Sayaka's school and causing all kinds of trouble. One day, he meets Onimaru Takeshi, an extremely talented kendo student, and a fierce rivalry forms between them. As they continue fighting each other, Onimaru discovers a trap door leading to his basement, where he finds two huge statues of the Fuujin, the wind god, and the Raijin, the lightning god. While Yaiba learns about the swords of the two gods, Onimaru trains with the sword of the Fuujin and becomes possessed. He sets out on a journey to find the other sword, while raising the legendary eight demons on the way. Onimaru gains incredible power and takes over Tokyo, spreading his influence everywhere- will Yaiba be able to stop him before he takes over the entire world? This series is an action/comedy- the first half of the series focuses on humor, but it suddenly takes a turn towards the serious in the middle of the story. The second half, while still maintaining its frequent jokes, is packed with incredible fighting and suspense. Volume 1: While Yaiba and his father, Kenjuurou, are eating their lunch in the jungle, a tiger tries to attack them and steal their food. The three of them end up angering a pack of gorillas and get shipped to Japan in a crate of pineapples. At the airport in Japan, Yaiba meets Mine Sayaka, who turns out to be the daughter of Kenjuurou's rival, Raizou. Kenjuurou sets out on a journey to train, leaving Yaiba to move in with the Mine family. Yaiba follows Sayaka to school, creating all sorts of trouble for her teacher, who demands that Yaiba must pass a test in order to attend the school. His test is to defeat an experienced kendo student, which he finally manages to do with a little help from his father. At the end of the match, he meets Onimaru Takeshi- a strong, talented student. Determined to fight him, Yaiba does everything he can to provoke Onimaru into a match. A rivalry forms between them, and they both train rigorously to defeat the other. However, one day, in the middle of his training, Onimaru finds a hidden staircase in his house leading to a secret room. There, he finds two huge statues of the wind god and the lightning god. The lightning god is missing an arm, but the wind god is holding a large sword in its hand. His grandfather tells hims that it is a treasure of the Onimaru family- the legendary sword of the wind god.
