Judo Scoring
Ippon (nihongo) - full point - end of match.
Can be earned by a really good throw where the opponent lands flat on his/hir back, by holding the opponent on his/her back for 30 seconds, by submission of the opponent during any point of the match or specifically in a choking or joint locking situation, or by earning two waza-aris (described next).

Waza-ari (nihongo) - half point.
Can be earned when the opponent is thrown, but doesn't quite land flat or lands without much impact flat on his/her back. Can also be earned by holding the opponent down for 25-29 seconds.

Yuukou (nihongo) - quarter point.
Can be earned when the opponent is thrown and lands on his/her side or not quite flat on his/her back. Also earned by holding someone down for 20-24 seconds. Yukos do not add up to produce waza-aris.

Kouka (nihongo) - eighth point.
Can be earned when the opponent lands on his/her butt basically. Also by holding someone for 10-19 seconds. Kokas do not add up to produce yukos.

A person with one yuko would beat a person with any number of kokas. A person with one waza-ari would be a person with any number of yukos. This is the point about adding up scores. Only waza-aris can be added to earn an ippon.

There are also warnings that can give your opponent points.

(equivalent to ippon).

Keikoku - Warning
(equivalent to waza-ari).

Chui - Caution
(equivalent to yuukou).

Shido - Note
